Old Time Holiness People May be Falsely Represented
I think our church forefathers and mothers sometimes get a bad
rap. While it is true there may have been some thatwere cruel and legalistic. I think for the most part the
people offended were offended just by watching their lives and notby them saying anything. Sister so and so may not cut her hair
and she may wear long dresses, long sleeves
for instance. The lady may avoid the movies and prefer soda pop to
strong drink. Along comes someone who likes doing all the things this
lady does not do and prefers to dress like the world around her.
The one who who dresses like the world may get convicted
without sister so and so saying a thing. They assume the holiness peopleare condemning them
without them saying a thing. My memory of holiness
people is positive. They had a sweetspirit and full of love. If you had
a problem, they would either stop and pray then and there or promise to
pray for your need.
I only remember one who was
judgmental but she was young. She didn't really want to live that wayherself but she had to because of her mom. Therefore she
judged all of us who didn't live up to her mother's standards. The mom
herself was not like that. I remember mostly people who loved
the Lord enough to do what they
thought was pleasing to the Lord, instead of what they
thought would please the world.
