Psalm 57
It seemed as if the greater power and strength was against David. That power was the armies of Saul that were trying to take his life. It looked like he was trapped in that cave with no way out. If we read the account of this story, we see that God allowed David to be delivered from his enemies. In reality, David had the greater power behind him but if we looked through our own natural eyes, we would think that David was in a hopeless situation. David's trust was in God though and God delivered him from his enemies and made him king of Israel. (Psa 57:2) I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.(Psa 57:3) He shall send from heaven, and save me from the reproach of him that would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth his mercy and his truth. (Psa 57:4) My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword. (Psa 57:5) Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth. Those that trust in the Lord will be the winners. It may not happen exactly like we think but in the end, all that put their trust in the Lord and depend on Him will win. Even if it looks as if the majority are against what is right. Even if it looks like everyone is living in sin and ignoring God, those that put their trust in God will come out the winners. Read the last two chapters of Revelations to see what happens to those who trust in the Lord. (Psa 57:6) They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down: they have digged a pit before me, into the midst whereof they are fallen themselves. Selah.(Psa 57:7) My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise. When we walk by faith, we must keep our hearts fixed on God. Singing and praising is part of worship that keeps us tuned into the presence of the Lord. God will inhabit true praise that is given unto Him. (Psa 57:8) Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.True worship can be in quiet peaceful moments of silent prayer or it can be with musical instruments, clapping and praise. It is the heart that God sees and He sees whether we are worshipping because we love Him or because we like the beat of the music. (Psa 57:9) I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto thee among the nations. We must not be ashamed to praise God in front of those that do not believe in God or in the ways of God. To believe in God, one must believe in every word of God and in all the ways of God. We can't say we believe in God and not believe the word of God. (Psa 57:10) For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds.(Psa 57:11) Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: let thy glory be above all the earth. God alone will rule in the end and be exalted above all. We can be part of this or be left out. It is our choice. To walk with God, we must go the way He provided for us. What keeps us from walking with God? First of all sin separates us from God. God cannot fellowship with sin. God made a way to rid us of sin. That way was by Jesus Christ the Son of God. Jesus came in the flesh and was born as a baby to become one of us. He did this to show us how to get back into fellowship with God. God saw that we were sinners on the way to hell because of our sins. God sent His own Son to us to make a way for us to be free from sin and get back into the fellowship with God. That fellowship was broken at the fall of Adam. Jesus is also called the second Adam. The first Adam caused fellowship with God to be broken and the second Adam made the way for mankind to be put back into fellowship with God. If sin separates us from God, then that sin had to be removed. Jesus came to pay the price for sin and give us the power to overcome sin and be brought back to God. To receive this one must acknowledge that he or she has sinned, turn from that sin and look to Jesus in faith. Jesus will make us a new person and remove the penalty for sin and we will be "born again" by the spirit of God. We become a new person in Christ. This gift is freely given and we cannot earn it in any way. Now we can have the promise of eternal life and walk in the presence of God now. We can have the spirit of God living within us daily and we are not ever alone. 1John 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:1Jo 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 1Jo 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. This promise of eternal life will not come to us automatically. We must repent and believe in Jesus Christ to receive this gift of God. This is a gift that has to be received by those that believe it. If a friend offers you a gift, you would have to believe it and open your hand to receive it, it would not come automatically. It is the same with God. God will not force His gifts upon you, you must first believe and then receive. -Dorna ©2008 Old Paths Lighthouse |
