The morning is such a nice time to pray. It is pleasant to start the day with prayer and acknowledge God before doing anything else. I realize many have to rush in the mornings and have more time to pray at night but my favorite time is morning. So new and fresh. Its like putting God at the forefront of our day before we do anything else.
Psa 5:1: To the chief Musician upon Nehiloth, A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.
2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.
3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
God loves righteousness and good things. Wickedness grieves him continually. Evil shall
not dwell with God. This is a comfort to know that we will one day dwell in the presence
of God and no more evil will befall us. God hates wickedness because He knows
it will eventually cause us to destroy each other and live in misery.
Mankind would eventually destroy themselves if God didn't intervene.
Psa 5:5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
6 Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful
man.
Leasing is lying words, deceiving words and words that cause trouble and even shedding of
blood. God hates lying and loves truth. Now through Christ we can have access to the
spirit and power to cause us to walk in truth and love. If we truly love one another, we
will walk in truth and will not desire to harm one another.
Psa 5:7 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in
thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.
Through fear and reverence toward God, the Psalmist goes into the house of the Lord to
worship depending on the mercy of God to deliver and save him from sin. All of us need the
grace and mercy of God to save us. All of us need to worship him in thanksgiving and love
in order to sustain us throughout our entire life. We cannot possibly survive without it.
It is impossible to make it on our own.
Psa 5:8 Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way
straight before my face.
Lead me O Lord in thy righteousness. Notice that we don't ask the Lord to lead us in our
own righteousness but we are totally dependant on his righteousness to save us. Our own
good works and rituals cannot make us righteous. We need his righteousness to take the
place of ours, Our own righteousness is not really righteousness at all.
A straight way is a holy way. His way is holy and our ways are not. We need to substitute
his way for ours.
Psa 5:9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness;
their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.
Without the righteousness of Jesus Christ, there is no faithfulness. When we get away from
his love and righteousness and start trusting in our own, we are in danger of doing
wickedness, speaking evil and using flattery to gain followers. This we must avoid and
instead learn to speak in faithfulness, in love, and speak things, which edify and bring
forth fruit. A little compliment and encouragement is good but flattery that
is not genuine and is done only to gain favoritism and present a false front
is wrong. Absalom did not care for his followers. He pretended to care for
them and used flattery do take followers away from David and to himself
instead.
Psa 5:10 Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in
the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.
This is the ultimate end for those who ignore the word of God and his righteousness. Those
who reject truth and continue in evil transgressions and rebellion against God will be
destroyed. We have a chance through the grace and power of God to escape the judgment that
is to fall upon those that reject the plan of salvation God gave through faith in Jesus
Christ.
Psa 5:11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for
joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
Walking with God totally and in obedience is joy. If we have lost that first love and joy
of salvation, we need to return to it and we can. The first sign of losing our joy of
salvation is when we begin to murmur and complain. Next we began to unjustly find fault in
everyone else while failing to see our own sins. We then become unhappy and miserable and
feel like we are victims of everyone else's wrongdoing. Love is just the opposite. Love
seeks to overlook the faults of others. Love seeks to forgive quickly when one has wronged
you. Love gives people the benefit of the doubt. Love does not seek to separate
friendships and is never envious of the friendship others have. Love hides rumors rather
than spreads them. Love is joyful and content.
Psa 5:12 For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as
with a shield.
Those that walk with the Lord is blessed and has continual fellowship with God. They can
rely on God as their shield and lie down at nights in comfort knowing that they are
assured peace and safety.
